Building Afghanistan's Future Through Shariah-Compliant Finance

Afghanistan's dedicated Islamic Development and Investment Bank — mobilizing capital, driving reconstruction, delivering impact.

Afghanistan — a nation rebuilding

"Afghanistan faces a financing challenge of historic proportions — and no existing institution was designed to meet it. IDIB was built to fill that gap."

IDIB Founding Vision

About IDIB

Built for Afghanistan's reconstruction

The Imtiaz Development and Investment Bank of Afghanistan (IDIB) is a purpose-built, Shariah-compliant Development Finance Institution incorporated under Afghan law and regulated by Da Afghanistan Bank. IDIB exists to mobilize and deploy domestic and international capital through rigorous Islamic financial instruments for the financing of Afghanistan's sustainable development.

Between 60% and 80% of Afghans avoid conventional banking due to deeply held concerns about riba. IDIB was built from the ground up to serve this vast, underserved population — channeling investment into infrastructure, agriculture, SMEs, and housing through instruments that are not merely "Islamic in name" but independently verified, audited, and transparent.

Our Financing Pillars

IDIB deploys a comprehensive suite of Islamic finance instruments — from trade finance and leasing to equity partnership, capital markets, and development structures — ensuring every client and project can be served within the bounds of Shariah.

Asset-Based Financing
Murabaha (cost-plus trade finance) and Ijara (Islamic leasing) provide working capital, equipment financing, and infrastructure leasing through globally established Shariah-compliant structures.
Equity-Based Financing
Musharakah and Mudarabah place IDIB alongside clients as a co-investor. Diminishing Musharakah enables Shariah-compliant home and enterprise finance through a gradual client buyout.
Capital Market Instruments
From Year 3, IDIB introduces Sukuk structuring and issuance — enabling government and corporate clients to raise large-scale capital through Shariah-compliant capital market instruments.
Development Finance Structures
Blended finance, Waqf-linked structures, and Qard Hasan (interest-free benevolent finance) serve clients and communities that commercial finance alone cannot reach.

Three Impact Pillars

More purposeful than a charity or a bank

IDIB operates at the intersection of development finance, investment banking, and Shariah integrity — three pillars that together define an institution built for Afghanistan's reconstruction.

Development Finance
IDIB deploys capital into Afghanistan's most critical development needs — infrastructure, SMEs, agriculture, and housing — through structured Islamic financial instruments. Our development finance mandate gives us access to concessional funding from multilateral institutions that commercial banks cannot access.
Investment Banking
IDIB structures and advises on Sukuk issuance, large-scale project finance, public-private partnerships, and fund management. Our investment banking services help government and private sector clients unlock capital for transformative projects across Afghanistan.
Shariah Integrity
Every IDIB product is pre-approved and continuously audited by our independent Shariah Supervisory Board (SSB). We publish an Annual Shariah Compliance Report and dispose of any non-compliant income to charitable purposes — holding ourselves to a standard that is transparent, rigorous, and uncompromising.

Our Vision

To be a trusted partner for national reconstruction, a catalyst for sustainable economic growth, and a global exemplar of Shariah-compliant development banking in post-conflict contexts.

Trusted partner for reconstruction.
A catalyst for sustainable economic growth and a credible institutional counterpart for government, multilateral, and private sector stakeholders.
Shariah-compliant by design.
Between 60% and 80% of Afghans avoid conventional banking due to riba. IDIB was built from the ground up to serve them — making inclusive finance a founding principle, not an afterthought.

Our Values

The principles that define us

Integrity
We hold ourselves to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in all dealings with clients, shareholders, regulators, and the communities we serve. Every commitment — commercial or developmental — is honored with full transparency and accountability.
Shariah Authenticity
Shariah compliance is not a marketing label — it is the defining characteristic of our institution. Every product is independently approved by our Shariah Supervisory Board, with an annual public Shariah Compliance Report published for full accountability.
Development Impact
Every financing proposal is assessed against both commercial viability and measurable positive impact for Afghan communities. Profit and purpose are not in conflict at IDIB — they are the twin goals that define our reason for existence.
Transparency
We are committed to full transparency with all stakeholders: audited financial statements for shareholders, fully disclosed pricing for clients, a public Annual Shariah Compliance Report, and complete regulatory disclosures to Da Afghanistan Bank.
Excellence
Our team is selected for professional excellence and developed through structured training — including Shariah finance certification — to operate at a standard comparable to the best Islamic development banks in the world.
Inclusion
We are committed to serving all Afghans — across provinces, income levels, sectors, and genders. Our products are designed to reach not only large institutions but also smallholder farmers, SME owners, and households excluded from formal finance for too long.
