IT & Digital Banking

Technology is a strategic priority for IDIB — not an afterthought. In Afghanistan's challenging operating environment, technology is the primary mechanism through which IDIB expands its reach, reduces operating costs, and provides superior client service.
IDIB's technology investment is designed to be robust, Shariah-compliant in its architecture, resilient against Afghanistan's infrastructure challenges, and scalable as the institution grows.
Where physical infrastructure can be unreliable and geographic distances are large, a layered digital banking strategy — spanning internet banking, mobile apps, USSD, and agent networks — ensures that IDIB can reach clients across Afghanistan's diverse economic landscape.
Core Banking System
Islamic-native from the ground up
IDIB's Core Banking System is procured specifically for its native Islamic finance capabilities — not adapted from a conventional system with Islamic modules bolted on. The CBS includes native product engines for Murabaha, Ijara, Musharakah, Mudarabah, and (from Year 3) Sukuk and capital markets — ensuring that Islamic product calculations, profit distributions, ownership records, and Shariah documentation are handled correctly at the system level, not through manual workarounds.
Vendor Selection Criteria
- AAOIFI-compliant engines: Native profit calculation and distribution engines compliant with AAOIFI Financial Accounting Standards.
- Multi-currency support: AFN, USD, and major international currencies from day one.
- Proven track record: Demonstrated deployment with Islamic banks and DFIs in comparable emerging markets.
- Module scalability: Sukuk, capital markets, and fund management modules available from Year 3.
